While nothing has been set in stone, there are two names that are in the discussion right now to direct the Jurassic World sequel.
Reports a few months ago stated that Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible) may be the leader in that race. Although talks with producer Frank Marshall proved to be just friendly, it still got people’s attention. Bayona has also directed the critically acclaimed chiller The Orphanage (2007), the first two episodes of the Showtime series Penny Dreadful and the upcoming A Monster Calls starring Oscar nominated actress Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything).
Another obvious choice would be Colin Trevorrow. Trevorrow directed last summer’s smash Jurassic World, yet has already signed on to direct Star Wars: Episode IX. Trevorrow has already written the sequel with Derek Connolly (Safety Not Guaranteed), but the script needs to be in working order before they start officially deciding on director. With a hopeful release date of June 22, 2018, the process might have to be hurried a bit.
Stars of the first Jurassic World, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, are expected to return for the sequel.
