Director Shane Black Discusses New ‘Predator’ Sequel

Twentieth Century Fox, Davis Entertainment and TSG Entertainment are teaming up with Shane Black (Iron Man 3) to bring back the hell-raising monster from outer space in The Predator. Fred Dekker will help pen the screenplay with an impending release date of March 2, 2018. Black’s involvement was first announced back in 2014, however, more information is now surfacing on the long-awaited film (although a cast has still yet to be locked in).

Steve Weintrub of Collider caught up with Shane Black to discuss the upcoming movie. On being asked the status of the project, Black said,

I’m working on the script, and barring an act of God, a safe from the sky, there’s nothing that suggests it won’t be the next thing.” When asked if Schwarzenegger will be back, Black was evasive, saying, “We have not talked about it, which is good because I’m not supposed to talk about it anyway.

Talking to Thrillist, Black discussed his initial reluctance about taking over, “Look. You guys over at Fox, I mean, I enjoy these movies, but we’ve been churning out these AVP whatever, they each cost a certain amount of money, they’re okay, but there’s no effort to elevate them or make them any kind of event”. When reassured by the execs at Fox that they’re willing to shell out the money to make this movie a “spectacle”, Black softened up to the idea of being in charge.

The poster came out in February of this year and reads, “You’ll never see him coming”. The producer John Davis, spoke with Collider last year and said of the script, “It’s entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way.”
