Antlers was another film that was unfortunately pushed back due to the Coronavirus. But that did not stop director Scott Cooper and producer Guillermo del Toro from gushing about the project.
Before the panel even kicked off, we were given an exclusive look at Antlers. This movie is shaping up to be a horrific materpiece of gore, horror, and thrills. To say that this movie will hold back in any way would be a lie as those of us that have seen the trailer know how terrifying it was to watch.
At the Antlers panel for Comic-Con at Home, the two of them not only gushed about the project, but they found themselves talking about their careers and inspirations. We got a first hand look into the minds of these two great filmmakers. They talked about their dream projects, Scott Cooper’s is an Edgar Allan Poe murder mystery while del Toro’s is a three part Frankenstein adaptation. Both of them seemed to be in great spirits. They also talked about their favorite movies, Cooper’s being Jaws and Godfather while del Toro mentioned Creature from the Black Lagoon.
But what more interesting than anything was that they heavily discussed the filmmaking process as well as the collaboration efforts that go into them. They talked about watching movies constantly to learn from their favorite directors. They talked about the casting process and how looking for a specific actor can sometimes appear to be a daunting task to achieve. They talked about the intricacies of getting folklore right, even going to the source when they know nothing.
If this panel has shown us anything it’s that filmmakers are always willing to learn more and more to become better than they were before. And at the foundation of all their hard work, they are just people trying to do what they believe is best. It’s an eye-opening experience that not only left me wanting to see Antlers, but left me wanting to know more about the filmmaking process.
Antlers is set to release in 2021.
