Director Sam Raimi in Talks for ‘A Prophet’

According to Deadline, director Sam Raimi (Oz the Great and Powerful, the first three Spider-man installments) is in early talks to direct a remake of French crime thriller A Prophet for Sony to be produced by Original Film.

The French feature was Oscar-nominated in 2009 for Best Foreign Film (losing to Argentina’s The Secret in Their Eyes). It won Grand Prize at Cannes and nine César Awards in France. Jacques Audiard (Rust and Bone) directed the gritty picture centering around young Arab man sent to a French prison where becomes a mafia kingpin. The film starred Tahar Rahim (The Past) and Niels Arestrup (By the Sea). The remake has a script by Dennis Lehane (writer of the novels Shutter Island and Mystic River).

Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing.
