Director of ‘Bao’ Will Direct Full Length Movie ‘Turning Red’

Director Domee Shi was the first woman to direct an animated short film for Pixar. Shi direct the 2018 short movie Bao, which was about a Canadian Chinese mother who dreams the her son is a baozi bun, after she becomes stressed when she learns that her son is leaving home and getting married. Bao was well received, and it even won an Oscar for the Best Animated Short Film.

Now Domee Shi will be directing a feature length movie for Pixar. According to Screen Rant the movie will be called Turning Red. The movie is set to be released in theaters on March 11th 2022. On their official twitter account Disney posted tweet revealing a little bit about the plot of Turning Red. Apparently the story of movie will follow a young girl named Mei, who is struggling with the awkward experiences of being a teenage girl. Along with facing the usual teenage, Mei also suffers from the issue that whenever she becomes too excited she transforms into a giant red panda. The tweet also included a little sneak peak at some of the movie’s artwork, which shows off Mei in both her human and her giant red panda form.
