It seems like Uncharted is the movie that fate just does not want to exist. A movie adaptation of Naughty Dog’s popular Uncharted video game series has been in development for several years now and has cycled through several different directors formally involved with the movie, including David O’Russell, Neil Burger, and Seth Gordon.
For a while, Shawn Levy was attached to direct the project but, due to some scheduling conflicts, had to abandon the movie. He was replaced by director Dan Trachtenberg, who is well known for directing 10 Cloverfield Lane and for his work on the new series The Boys.
Now, however, Uncharted has just lost Dan Trachtenberg as well. Trachtenberg does not currently have a replacement just yet, but Sony is already meeting with possible candidates. While Trachtenberg is leaving the project, actor Tom Holland will continue to be involved with Uncharted.
The Uncharted movie was supposed to come out in winter of 2020, but it does not seem like the movie will meet that release date now. The plot of the movie would have be an origin story for franchise protagonist Nathan Drake, an adventurer and treasure hunter similar to Indiana Jones or Lara Croft. Drake is usually voiced by Nolan North in the video games, and Holland is supposed to play him in the movie.
Until then, please enjoy this amazing fan film starring Nathan Fillion as Drake.
