Director Bryan Singer Announces Newcomer Lana Condor Will Play Jubilee in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Director Bryan Singer, taking to Instagram earlier today, announced that newcomer Lana Condor will play Jubilee in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.

The character was created by X-Men writer and artist Marc Silvestri and first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #244 in 1989. She has the power to shoot plasmoids from her fingertips. The character reached the mainstream by being the audience surrogate in the 90s X-Men animated television series in which she discovered the X-Men in the first episode. Throughout the series she had a close sibling-style relationship with Gambit, who will be played by Channing Tatum in the film. Jubilee’s inclusion makes it possible for the film to follow this thread. In the comics, she eventually becomes Wondra and is later turned into a vampire.

It makes sense for the film to plant the seed for Jubilee to appear in future installments. Both Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult who play Mystique and Beast, respectively, confirmed earlier this month that X-Men: Apocalypse would be their last film in the franchise as their contracts expire after its release.

Condor has no other credits to her name, though it wouldn’t be a surprise if this was the first of many roles for the young actress.
