It’s been thirty years since the Christmas classic Gremlins film has come out, and there has been talk ever since on third film to be added to the franchise. Original Writer Chris Columbus says that if it’s ever made, the film will stick to using puppets and stay away from CGI like the first two films. With CGI being so realistic and common in 2020, it is a surprise that there will not be any in the potential new film, but it may make Gremlins 3 more unique without these effects, as that’s what made the first two so special.
The first Gremlins (1984) is the film that made Chris Columbus a successful writer, along with future Home Alone director Joe Dante. Steven Spielberg produced the film, and six years after sequel came out: Gremlins 2: The New Batch. According to Screen Rant, the filmmaker revealed that he’d love to make Gremlins 3, and he stated that he already wrote the script: “I would love to do it. I wrote a script, so there is an existing script. We’re working out some rights issues right now, so we’re just trying to figure out when the best time to make that film would be. I would still do it the same way – I would do it as tangible puppets, not CGI”. It is not certain when Gremlins 3 will begin filming or be released, but when it is, it will be truly magical.
