Prepping for its theatrical release on November 7th, distributor Mubi has unveiled new teaser posters for Die My Love, the latest filmmaking experiment by Scottish auteur director Lynne Ramsay. Heralded as genre cross-section of thrillers, psychological dramas, and black comedy, the film is co-written by Ramsay with Irish playwright Enda Walsh and further writing by screenwriter Alice Birch. Adapting the eponymous novel by Ariana Harwicz, the film came into production after star actress and co-producer Jennifer Lawrence received the novel from acclaimed director and fellow co-producer on the film, Martin Scorsese, who had read it as part of his book club. From that point, Lawrence assembled the production to turn the novel into a feature, in the process recruiting Ramsay as director, in a strong move reminiscent of many other past actors-as-producers who had enabled respected filmmakers to find larger projects to attach themselves to.

Filling out the cast with Lawrence are Robert Pattinson, similarly notable for his passion for working to realize projects with acclaimed independent directors while also navigating the superhero sphere as Batman, prolific character actor Lakeith Stanfield, and acting legends Nick Nolte and Sissy Spacek. Die My Love would be the third film Nolte and Spacek will have acted in together, in a long screen relationship of 45 years, following shared projects Heart Beat and Affliction.

Die My Love will detail the circumstances surrounding a couple with a newborn on their exodus from the city into the countryside. Navigating high emotions and new changes, the wife and mother will undergo psychological destabilization that will usher her and her husband into unusual states. Ramsay, for decades, has proven herself an accomplished filmmaker of upsetting and distant emotions, as echoed in the apathy and ennui of Morvern Callar or the internal family ruptures that lead to mass slaughter in We Need To Talk About Kevin. Though she’s been working since 1999, Die My Love will only be Ramsay’s fifth film, albeit not for lack of trying.
