Out of the Blue, a new thriller from prolific American playwright, screenwriter, and director Neil LaBute (The Wicker Man, In the Company of Men), has found its lead actors. Quiver Distribution announced the news about the thriller on Monday.
Diane Kruger (National Treasure) and Ray Nicholson (Promising Young Woman) have been cast as the lead stars in Out of the Blue. They head out to Rhode Island this week to begin filming.
The thriller is described as a modern tale of passionate love, deception, and the perfect murder.
Out of the Blue follows Conner (Nicholson), a guy whose mundane life is turned into an exciting dream world owing to the alluring Marilyn (Kruger). He dives headfirst into the adulterous affair, the ex-con with a gold heart seemingly destined for the raven-haired trophy wife. The one stumbling block in their precious new life together? Marilyn is living a nightmare with an abusive husband and a fragile stepdaughter. Connor, who is desperate and has a history of violence, will go to nearly any length to see him dead.
“Neil LaBute is one of the most ingenious and powerful contemporary filmmakers,” said Quiver co-presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman. “It has been incredible to watch this project take form with the talents of Diane and Ray, and we are eager for filming to begin!”
Kruger will next be seen in Simon Kinberg’s The 355, which stars Jessica Chastain, Penélope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o, and Bingbing Fan.
Nicholson was most recently seen in Amazon’s teen drama series Panic, based on the novel with the same name from New York Times Best-Selling author Lauren Oliver. The series was cancelled after one season.
