Oscar winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) is making her directorial debut with Paradise (also known as Lamb of God), starring Julianne Hough (Footloose, Rock of Ages).
Hough plays Lamb, a small town, wide-eyed girl raised by devoted parents Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), and Oscar winner Holly Hunter (The Piano). She lives in a religious community, where life’s experiences revolve around going to church and avoiding sin. When Lamb suffers devastating burns over most of her body from a horrific plane crash, she loses her faith and heads straight for Las Vegas. Lamb meets Russell Brand (Get Him To The Geek) and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (The Help), who take her under their wing. That’s when the fun begin. Hey, it is “Sin City.”
Diablo Cody has written the screenplay with her usual trademark brand of comedy. Speaking with USA Today, Cody spoke about the film and being a first time director.
I’ve been writing dialogue and creating characters for a long time so I knew how I wanted them to sound, and what I needed them to convey. I thought it was important to have Paradise be a comedy that also conveyed a message of hope. So many people experience tremendous life-altering experiences and don’t know how to cope. Directing the film was difficult, I was absolutely terrified.
Paradise is being produced by Diablo Cody, Nathan Kahane, Michelle Knudsen, Duck Kolenik, David Kaplan and Mason Novick, and will premiere in theaters October 18, 2013
