Or rather, he gets other people out of them. Andrew Garfield has signed onto the indie drama 99 Houses, which positions him as a man who loses his house and ends up going into business with the Realtor who foreclosed on him. Together they boot people out of their homes…and embezzle money from the government while they’re at it. As Garfield’s financial position strengthens, the moral decay also sets in.
The film will be directed by Ramin Bahrani, known for indie dramas like At Any Price, starring Dennis Quaid and Zac Effron, and Man Push Cart. Bahrani also wrote the script, as he has with all of his feature directorial efforts. While he may not yet be a household names, Bahrani has developed a positive reputation on the festival circuit, and it shows: 99 Homes is backed by producers Kevin Turen and Justin Nappi, both recently off of Arbitrage, which garnered awards consideration for Richard Gere last year, and All Is Lost, the Robert Redford survival film that received high praise at Cannes. They also both produced At Any Price.
The real estate agent for 99 Houses has not been cast yet, but production figures to move forward quickly once an actor it found, provided it works with Garfield’s prior commitments. He’ll have any re-shoots and promotional work for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as well as production on Martin Scorsese’s Silence upcoming.
