A24’s Death of a Unicorn, starring Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd is making it’s way to HBO Max. The film, which received a 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, is quick to make it’s appearance on the streaming platform, arriving only four months after its theatrical release.
In the film, Rudd and Ortega play a father and daughter who, according to a description, “accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss (Richard E. Grant) seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.”
Unfortunately, the film did not do well in theaters. In addition to its lower score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film’s financial pull was also poor. Only $16.1 million was made on a $15 million budget.
On the bright side, audiences had a much warmer reception to the film. Currently, Death of a Unicorn stands at a 77% audience score. This more favorable score could indicate a possible streaming success when the film does arrive on HBO Max.
You can expect to see Death of a Unicorn streaming on HBO Max July 25th.
