‘Dead Snow’ Sequel Premiers at Sundance, Gets New Trailer

Last month, we reported on the greatest Nazi-zombie sequel showing at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival (and trust us, the competition is fierce). Since then, Dead Snow: Red vs Dead has had its premiere – January 19, to be exact, with one screening left on the 24th – plus new gut-wrenching trailer coming to us from twitchfilm. Warning: thtrailer does contain actual guts being wrenched from stomachs .

Based on the trailer,  for his followup to the 2009 horror-comedy Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola seems to be taking up the wise philosophy of not simply making the same movie twice. While the original had the structure and feel of a typical zombie film (a group of people in an isolated area get attacked by legions of the undead) with humor injected in, Red vs Dead looks to be channeling Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Army of Darkness (and possibly Peter Jackson’s pre-LOTR foray into the zombie genre, Brain Dead) by mixing generous amounts of action in with the gore and twisted chuckles. The addition of an American team of zombie hunters, plus protagonist Martin’s (Vegar Hoel) new super-powered arm even give off vibes of Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy movies.

According to twitch, “American distribution news [for Red vs Dead] should be coming very soon.”
