He’s on the hunt for his Precious, and they’re on the hunt for him. A major update was just given on the production of the newest trip to Middle Earth, The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum.

Although the events were relayed to the main characters in the pages of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, fans are left speculating what exactly the story of this new film itself will focus on. The book tells the tale of Aragorn and Gandalf the Grey tracking down Gollum in hopes of learning what he knows about Sauron’s One Ring of Power from him.

One guarantee they do have, however, is the presence of Andy Serkis’ performance as the titular Gollum. After playing him in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, as well as a reprisal in The Hobbit, he will not only headline the film as Gollum, but he will also be directing it, even with Jackson producing. With his casting being the only one confirmed, many fans are wondering who will actually be hunting for Gollum.

However, their speculation may pay off sooner than anticipated. Collider noted that word came directly from CEO of Warner Bros. itself, David Zaslav, that they’ve got a screenplay in hand.

While on a financial call, Zaslav said that We’ve got a great script on Lord of the Rings with Peter Jackson that we’re moving forward on.”

The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum hits theaters 2027.
