David Maisel, the founding chairman of Marvel Studios, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter this week about the start of Marvel Studios and the future project he’s working on. Naming it The Ekos Universe, it’s described as “Avatar meets Marvel.”
Animated Times states that the Ekos universe will be based on Michael Turner’s comic work, with Maisel saying, “Ekos will focus on the wonder and awe of this planet.”
The Hollywood Reporter states that “Maisel’s new plans will take inspiration from Turner’s work ala how Marvel Studios adapts the comics. The comics are at the heart, but the films and TV shows are very much their own thing.” Therefore, even though the source material may not have intertwined with one another, there is a high probability that this will be the case in Maisel’s adaptation.
Maisel has stated that he has over ten people hired for this new project, taking place under Maisel’s company Mythos Studios. Along with these people, several investors are putting millions into the project, and an advisory group consists of various people who have previously worked with Marvel Studios.
Following the success of the Marvel Universe built by Maisel, audiences are waiting to see where this new Ekos Universe goes. Read more about Maisel and his new and old projects here.
