A documentary about the late David Lynch has premiered at Cannes, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Presented by Lynch’s son and directed by Stéphane Ghez, Welcome To Lynchland covers much of the filmmaker’s repertoire, from his first film, Eraserhead, which he spent five years trying to make, through his early ventures into Hollywood with The Elephant Man and Dune, his eventual return to his roots with Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, and Wild at Heart, and his biting commentary on the industry in Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire.

Clocking in at an hour long, the film also features interviews with Lynch’s collaborators, such as Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Naomi Watts, and Isabella Rossellini.

Lynch has had an extensive history with the Cannes Film Festival, winning the Palme d’Or for Wild at Heart in 1990 and the award for Best Director for Mulholland Drive in 2001, presided over the jury in 2002, and even recently participated virtually in a panel discussion in film music in 2023.

During his introduction to Welcome To Lynchland, Riley Lynch, also a filmmaker, discussed memories of visiting the festival with his father, saying,

The last time I was here was in 2002 — when my dad was president of the jury — and I had my 10th birthday party here.

Welcome To Lynchland was completed before the director’s death in January of this year.
