That is definitely how you get the wheels turning. Universal has been pushing for 2019 release for the untitled Fast and Furious spinoff film, yet there had been no director associated with the film. Thankfully for the company, David Leitch became quite interested in the project and has signed on to direct the film, according to Empire. Leitch is perfect for the job too, considering his background of highly-intense fight-filled films, including Charlize Theron-starring spy film Atomic Blonde, the Keanu Reeves-led movie John Wick, and his latest high-octane project Deadpool 2. Universal seems to be quite pleased as well, having released an announcement through the Fast & Furious Twitter page, letting the whole world know about their new director.
While there is currently no information on the story of the film, we do know that it will feature two prominent characters in the franchise: Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs. While we may have no clue what will happen, we can assume it will feature cool cars, crazy action, and entertaining stunts like the previous films.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham are reprising their roles as Hobbs and Shaw respectively, and we know that Chris Morgan is working on the latest screenplay. Morgan has penned the previous three Fast and Furious films, so it comes as no surprise that he is returning. We hope to receive more news on the story or more of the casting on the film in the near future.
