As the summer release of Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World: Rebirth draws closer and closer, more production updates have been given on the new installment in this hallmark franchise. A new update directly from the writer connects the film to the original novel that was the genesis of the franchise.
David Koepp returns to the Jurassic franchise to write the screenplay for Rebirth. Koepp has not been attached to the series since The Lost World: Jurassic Park, after writing both that film and the 1993 precursor, with the two of them being adapted from Michael Crichton’s books.
Koepp revealed recently to Variety that a scene lifted directly from Chricton’s Jurassic Park will be included in Rebirth. Koepp stated that before writing began on the new film, he went back to read both of Chrichton’s original novels.
“There was a sequence from the first novel that we’d always wanted in the original movie, but didn’t have room for. We were like, ‘Hey, we get to use that now,’” he said.
GamesRadar points out that while Koepp did not state what scene from the novel will be included, there’s been rampant speculation revolving around it.
One of the most speculated inclusions would be that of the scene depicting Dr. Grant, Lex, and Tim being chased by a Tyrannosaurus while maneuvering a raft downriver. That moment in particular had been talked about avidly by fans since the original film’s debut and was even used as the inspiration for the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios.
Jurassic World: Rebirth stomps into theaters on July 2nd.
