Following his casting as Superman in James Gunn’s (Guardians of the Galaxy) upcoming film Superman (2025), David Corenswet (Pearl) is in talks to lead the upcoming sports entertainment production company Skydance Sports (Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning) film Mr. Irrelevant. Directed by Jonathan Levine (Long Shot) and written by Emmy-nominated Nick Santora (Most Dangerous Game), the movie tells the true story of John Tuggle, the last pick of the 1983 NFL Draft. Tuggle, who was drafted by the New York Giants, nonetheless made an impact on his team and his sport despite being the last player selected.
This project comes as Corenswet is increasingly present in Hollywood productions, following his recent success in securing the iconic role of Clark Kent in James Gunn’s Superman (2025). Corenswet, who has finished production on the Gunn’s film, has been considering new scripts and ultimately chose Mr. Irrelevant according to Deadline.
Produced by Levine, Santora, and Gillian Bohrer (Mortdecai), Mr. Irrelevant adds an inspiring story of an underdog to Skydance Sports’ growing film slate. The story will focus on the perseverance and determination that marked Tuggle’s career. Skydance sports website states their mission is to bring “elite athletes and A-List Hollywood talent” together to create “event-level entertainment” for audiences worldwide. Coordinating with Corenswet, who is well known for his role in Twisters (2024), Skydance Sports is set to bring another compelling sport drama to theaters.
