David Bowie Biopic ‘Moonage Daydream’ To Receive Theatrical Release

Neon announced this morning that on September 16 of 2023 the David Bowie biographical film Moonage Daydream will be brought to the theaters in the United States. The film was already scheduled to be released in theaters in Japan in March of next year, after its run at the Cannes Film Festival this year, but has since been decided to be distributed internationally.

Moonage Daydream is written, produced, edited, and directed by weathered documentary maker Brett Morgen, director of Kurt Cobain: Montage of HeckMoonage Daydream is the first picture depicting Bowie to be officially authorized by the rockstar’s estate. The project took on a five year production period to properly explore and depict Bowie in all of his creative processes throughout the numerous careers he took on. While best known for his music, Bowie was also an actor, screenwriter, artist, dancer, and filmmaker.

Thanks to the support of Bowie’s estate, Morgen had access to all of his personal archives as well as his master recordings. The film takes full advantage of the material offered to them by including nearly 50 of Bowie’s songs and numerous recordings of Bowie’s own voice.

Moonage Daydream will be in theaters in the United States in September of 2023.
