After countless music videos over the years, the Foo Fighters are ready to kick it on the big screen. The horror comedy film Studio666 will be starring the members of one of the most legendary bands in rock history.
For many who have followed the band over the years, it is no news that Dave Grohl and company have always had a good sense for comedy. In many of their music videos, the band members have played almost everything from flight attendants in the 1999 hit song ‘Learn to Fly’, to unhinged elderly running wild in a home in the 2017 heavy metal video ‘Run’, to Soap Opera actors in the 2007 ‘Long Road To Ruin’.
The band has now taken their acting career to another level and is proud to announce their first film Studio666. As Dave Grohl himself said in an interview “After decades of ridiculous music videos and numerous music documentaries under our collective belts, it was finally time to take it to the next level… A full-length feature horror comedy film. Like most things Foo, Studio666, started with a far-fetched idea that blossomed into something bigger than we ever imagined possible. Filmed at the same house where we recorded our last album ‘Medicine at Midnight’ – told you that place was haunted! – we wanted to recapture the classic magic that all our favorite rock and roll movies had, but with a twist: hilarious gore that fucking rocks!”
Dave Grohl and bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shifflett, and Rami Jaffee who play themselves, will be accompanied by Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega, and Jeff Garlin. The story is based on an idea by Grohl and the script is written by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes.
Director BJ McDonnell shared his excitement for the upcoming horror-comedy on Deadline, “Studio666 is a combination of all things I love. Rock, horror, and comedy all tied together in a very thrilling motion picture. I am so excited to have teamed up with the Foo Fighters to create an old-school Band movie.”
Open Road Films has acquired worldwide distribution rights and is looking to release the film as soon as February 25th, 2022.
