Former WWE star and current MCU star Dave Bautista was vocal about his passion to play Bane in a live-action Batman movie in a recent interview.
The Drax actor stated, “I want to play Bane so bad I went to Warner Bros., had an appointment with them, had an appointment with DC, walked in the door and said, ‘I want to play Bane.’ I’m not kidding. They were a little like ‘Woah, we’re not even casting Bane.’ I was like ‘I don’t care, I’m playing him.'”
The passion from Bautista is pretty apparent, and as far as characters and actors go, it seems like a perfect match. Live action-wise Bane has not been incredibly well-portrayed on the big screen. While Tom Hardy’s Bane was a compelling villain, that adaptation was not exactly comic accurate, which is not necessarily a terrible thing.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is currently in post production, and while it has a ton of Batman rogues already cast, it looks like Bane has not been cast yet. Though Warner Bros. is focusing on other villains that have not gotten a full two films like Bane has.
Here is to hoping Bautista eventually gets his wish. It had been 15 years between live-action Bane appearance, and right now we are 9 years removed from The Dark Knight Rises.
However, Bane is a recurring character, and a very fun character at that, in the animated Harley Quinn tv series on HBO Max.
Bautista is one of the hardest working actors in the industry, and while he really wants to play Bane, he is also in various stages of six projects and counting. However, it is nice for Warner Bros. to know that they have a Bane actor on standby even without any auditions.
