Darren Aronofsky’s newest film, Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz, has become quite a success after its digital release. The film debuted at number 10 on the iTunes Top Ten Movie Rentals, with Zach Creggar’s Weapons standing at number 1. This comes after Caught Stealing disappointed at the box office, grossing $31.1 million worldwide off an estimated budget of around $40 million.

Caught Stealing is based on the book of the same name by Charlie Huston, which was published in 2004. The film is set in New York in 1999 and follows Austin Butler as Hank Thompson, an ex-baseball player who, along with his girlfriend Yvette, played by Zoë Kravitz, gets entangled with multiple groups of gangsters after he helps his gangster neighbor, played by Matt Smith. The film also stars Regina King, Bad Bunny, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Liev Schreiber. Charlie Huston, writer of the source material, also wrote the film. Caught Stealing received pretty positive reviews from critics, currently standing at an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite its disappointing box office, the movie appears to be gaining a second life on digital platforms. One can only hope that the film’s success on streaming will continue to grow over time, especially as it debuts on other platforms, such as Netflix.
