A sequel of the Academy Award winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to be released June 2023. The sequel’s title is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and is directed by Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers. Actor Daniel Kaluuya has just been announced to be part of the voice cast as Hobart Brown, known as Spider-Punk.
Spider-Punk is a character that appeared in 2015 in Marvel Comics. He is a homeless teenager who becomes a hero as one of the many versions of Spider-Man that exist in the film’s multiverse. Plot details of the feature have not been revealed yet, however it will center again in Miles Morales, the Brooklyn Spider-Man seen in the first film. He will have to regroup with other Spider-People to defeat a new villain.
Kaluuya’s last film to be released in cinemas is the Sci-fi feature Nope! Directed by Jordan Peele. The actor worked with Peele also in 2017’s Get Out!, his performance made him deserving of a nomination for the Best actor Academy Award in 2018. Kaluuya won Best supporting actor Academy Award in 2021 for Judas and the Black Messiah.. This is not the first time Kaluuya is in a Marvel related film, he starred as W’Kabi in 2018’s Black Panther. His character will not be present in the upcoming Black Panther’s sequel.
The Voice cast also includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Issa Rae and Jason Schwartzman among others.
The Spider-Man animated franchise started as a trilogy. Its third film is set to be released in March 2024.
