Daniel Kaluuya to Star in New Netflix Film ‘The Upper World’

Daniel Kaluuya, star of films such as Get Out and Sicario, will officially bring his talents to Netflix’s exclusive streaming service, as he will act in and produce the filmic adaptation of Femi Fadugba’s novel, The Upper World, per Variety. The young adult novel tells the story of Kaluuya’s Esso, who has the power to see and travel forward and backwards into time. He then uses this ability to try and potential stop a bullet fired in the past.

Kaluuya is no stranger to the supernatural, and has worked in these type of realms throughout his career. Jordan Peele’s Get Out, for example, is sci-fi horror mixed with poignant social comedy. Additionally, he got the start of his career on Black Mirror, a similarly themed series.

The Upper World adaptation has no current director or screenwriter named yet, but Fadugba himself will executive produce the film, which is a promising sign for adaptations of novels. Along with Kaluuya, Eric Newman and Brian Unkeless will also produce the film.

Tendo Nagenda, Vice President of Netflix Film, said of the The Upper World: “Films can impact and expand the way people see and experience life. The Upper World will be one of those films.”
