Daniel Bruhl Added to the Cast of ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Marvel announced that the villain in Captain America: Civil War will be played by Daniel Bruhl (The Fifth Estate, Rush) but did not disclose which character he will portray. Bruhl will square off against Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. as Cap and Iron Man with Anthony Mackie as the Falcon and newcomer Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. Deadline expects Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson to appear in Civil War as well.

As we learned when Marvel revealed the subtitle, Civil War will feature a disagreement between Cap and Iron Man. Bruhl’s involvement implies that there will be a traditional villain character to further complicate matters. A source for Variety claims that Bruhl may also appear as the main villain in Doctor Strange as the same character.

Bruhl first made a name for himself with Inglourious Basterds in which he played German sniper Frederick Zoller, the star of the propaganda film. “With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes,” said Producer Kevin Feige. Captain America: Civil War will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Winter Soldier. The film will be released on May 6, 2016.
