Either feast or avert your eyes, because the following trailer gets quite hot and heavy for Justin Chadwick’s Tulip Fever.
Starring Dane DeHaan (Valerian) and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), the film follows a young artist who falls for the woman he has been commissioned to paint during the Tulip frenzy of 17th century Amsterdam. The kicker is that the young woman’s commissioner is her husband (Christoph Waltz), and once the two are caught by a member of the house’s help (Holliday Grainger), the lovers are put in danger. The story is based off of Deborah Maggoch’s novel, which has been adapted for the screen by playwright Tom Stoppard.
Also starring in the film is Jack O’Connell (Money Monster), Cara Delevingne (Valerian), Dame Judi Dench, Matthew Morrison (TV’s Glee), Zach Galifianakis, Kevin McKidd (TV’s Grey’s Anatomy), Tom Hollander (About Time), and David Harewood (TV’s Supergirl).
The director Justin Chadwick’s past films include The Other Boleyn Girl, another historic period piece that captured a dark and dangerous tale of seduction, which suggests that Tulip Fever may be able to accomplish something similar or more.
After stalling for some time in post-production limbo, The Weinstein Co. is finally releasing the film on September 1, 2017. See the steamy trailer below.
