Steve Austin lives again! Oscar-nominated filmmaker Damián Szifron has signed on to write the script for the new feature version of The Six Billion Dollar Man. This is an update of the classic 70s action series The Six Million Dollar Man, which will star Mark Wahlberg (Ted 2) in the role that made Lee Majors a cult icon on the small screen.
Szifron is best know for his Oscar-nominated Argentinian film Wild Tales (2014). He is set to make his English language feature debut as producer, director, and writer in an upcoming thriller for TriStar, but details on that project are being kept top-secret.
Whalberg, an Oscar nominee himself for 2006’s The Departed, re-teams with director Peter Berg in the title role as Austin, a former astronaut who suffers a horrific accident. He is saved by cutting-edge technology, giving him bionic parts that make him ‘bigger, faster, stronger’ – and adjusted for inflation, far more expensive than in the original series. Wahlberg and Berg previously teamed on 2014’s Lone Survivor.
