Daisy Ridley Starring in Futuristic Thriller ‘Mind Fall’; Mathieu Kassovitz Directing

Deadline has exclusively learned that Daisy Ridley has a new project lined up in futuristic thriller Mind Fall, with French filmmaker Mathieu Kassovitz on board to direct from a script written by Graham Moore (The Imitation Game). The film is set in a near-future London where memories are the most sought-after drug on the black market, literally extracted from one person’s brain and transplanted into another’s via new illicit technology.

Ardis Varnado (Ridley), a top trafficker, extracts reminiscences from people searching for a fast profit and resells them to “clients,” who pay top cash for these “mems” that attach to their subconscious, thereby becoming indistinguishable from their natural recollections. Meanwhile, she struggles with her own addiction to the mems, frequently unable to discern between the life she’s lived and the memories she’s implanted. Ardis’ impulse is to distrust her own thoughts when she is accused of killing one of her customers. She tries to solve the crime herself, seeking to clear her name and calling into question everything she’s ever believed to be true. As she peels back the layers, she learns she has every reason to.

Kassovitz, a respected director and actor, is best known for directing the landmark film La Haine and appearing in AmélieMind Fall will be his first film as a filmmaker in almost a decade and his third English-language picture following 2003 Gothika starring Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, and Robert Downey Jr. and 2008 Babylon AD starring Vin Diesel.

Ridley was most recently seen in the Lionsgate fantasy film Chaos Walking, starring alongside Tom Holland. Ridley is starring next in Neil Burger’s The Marsh King’s Daughter, which is now in the post-production phase.
