Daisy Ridley, who famously played Rey in the most recent trilogy of Star Wars films, has given fans a much-anticipated update on her return to the franchise. The film, which has the working title of ‘New Jedi Order’, was announced back in 2023 at Star Wars Celebration. Now, Ridley has provided some news on its production, although it is not as far along as one may expect.
In an interview with Screen Rant during her press tour for Cleaner, Daisy Ridley said that ‘New Jedi Order’ may still be a ways off. “I don’t think it’ll be the next thing I go to production on because I’m supposed to be doing, oh no, it’s not because I’m doing something next month, very excitingly. So it’s not the next thing production wise, but the script is being written and I’m very excited.” At the moment, it seems there are still a few years to wait before the film is finished. According to Ridley, the script is still being finished, meaning filming has not been scheduled yet.
Later, she acknowledged that she is not directly involved with production at the moment, but she is waiting for next steps. She said, “I have not read the latest script, but I know what’s happening, and I know the story, and I think what feels really good is that George is a phenomenal writer. I think we’re making sure that this story is the best way, this script is the best way to tell the story, and I think it will be worthwhile for everyone watching it, and I am very excited, yeah.”
While this is slightly disappointing news, fans should still be grateful that the film is still in production. Ever since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Disney and Lucasfilm have struggled to pin down a direction for Star Wars in film. While a steady stream of Star Wars content has poured onto Disney+ via TV shows, no new films have been released in over 5 years. Numerous projects were announced and cancelled, including films from Taika Waititi and Rian Johnson. Now, the fourth season of The Mandalorian has been retooled into a feature film titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, which completed filming in December and is set to release on May 22, 2026. At the moment, ‘New Jedi Order’ appears to be the next film scheduled after The Mandalorian & Grogu, but do not expect it anytime soon.
