On the heels of the her massive breakthrough in the phenom Star Wars: The Force Awakens, rising star Daisy Ridley may be in the running to for a second major franchise. The 23-year-old actress is, reportedly, one of a number of actresses up for the long-gestating reboot of Tomb Raider.
Ridley would be up for the top action role of Lara Croft- a role previously cemented by Angelina Jolie and based on the wildly popular video game. No deals have been made and nothing has been confirmed, yet Deadline says that conversations have taken place with the young actress. The movie is set to be directed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug (The Wave), marking his Hollywood debut. Warner Bros. and MGM are partnering on the film, which GK Films’ Graham King producing.
The popular video-game franchise follows English archaeologist Croft and her various Indiana Jones-like adventures. Game-developer Square Enix rebooted the story in 2013, setting the clock back in depicting Croft’s first adventure- it was followed-up by Rise of the Tomb Raider. The rebooted film version will likely do the same.
Ridley is currently shooting Episode VIII and it remains to be seen if Star Wars duty may keep the actress from taking what would likely be a second time-consuming endeavor. Her only upcoming credit aside from Star Wars is as executive producer on the upcoming documentary The Eagle Huntress. She can also currently be heard in the English-dubbed version of the Studio Ghibli classic Only Yesterday, which is currently in limited release.
