Daisy Ridley Expresses Excitement Over New Star Wars Movie’s “Different Direction”

Daisy Ridley, who starred as Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, teased her upcoming return to the franchise in a video interview with AlloCiné. While not much is known about the future film, Ridley is excited by the story. Having found out about the project during a casual breakfast with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Ridley agreed to join the project after hearing about the story.

“I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world.” Ridley exclaimed, “It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”

While Lucasfilm seems to have a specific story in mind, the script is still being worked on by Steven Knight and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who is set to become the first female director of a Star Wars film. The film is set to usher in the “New Jedi Order” era of Star Wars storytelling.

 During Star Wars Celebration Europe in April 2023, Kathleen Kennedy teased the time and themes of the film. “we’re 15 years out from ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ so we’re post-war, post-First Order, and the Jedi are in disarray,” Kennedy confirmed. “There’s a lot of discussion around, ‘Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What’s the state of the galaxy?’ She’s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.”

The Untitled Star Wars film starring Ridley was one of three unique films announced during 2023’s Star Wars Celebration. In addition to this film, Lucasfilm announced Star Wars film set in the distant past of the galaxy, directed by Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold, as well as a project by prolific Star Wars scribe Dave Filoni, which aims to be an event film that brings together plotlines from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka series. More recently, Lucasfilm announced The Mandalorian and Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau, a more immediate continuation of the overwhelmingly popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which is set to be the first Star Wars film to hit theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
