D23 spent a lot of time devoted to new projects coming from Disney, but they also dedicated time to projects that have already been on the horizon for some time now. Among these is Mufasa: The Lion King, which received a brand-new trailer
Mufasa is a prequel to the 2019 remake of The Lion King, which, as the title suggests, focuses on Mufasa, Simba’s father. The movie shows how Mufasa grew to where he was at the time of Simba’s birth, all the way back to his time as an orphaned cub.
Coming to the film to write the songs is Lin-Manuel Miranda, following his slew of massive hits putting together the songs on Disney films, such as Encanto, Moana, and the live-action Little Mermaid. Miranda even appeared at the event to talk about the film.
Hans Zimmer returns to do the score for Mufasa, after also composing the scores for both the 2019 and 1994 Lion King.
As Deadline reports, the new trailer spends time showing the relationship between a young Mufasa and Scar, before the two form their brotherly bond. It specifically shows a chance meeting between the two, with a young Scar trying to convince his tribe to take in the orphaned Mufasa.
Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters on December 20th.
