Joel Fry, who made a name for himself for starring in the Disney live-action remake Cruella, has his next project lined up. Deadline has exclusively learned that Fry is set to star in Gary Shore’s horror film The Queen Mary.
It is a psychological horror-mystery that explores three intertwined storylines about the horrific collapse of two families onboard the ship in 1938 and today. Also starring in the film is Alice Eve (Belgravia). The script was written by Stephen Oliver and Tom Vaughan, with modifications by Shore.
Shore made his directorial debut with the 2014 drama-fantasy Dracula Untold starring Luke Evans and Dominic Cooper.
According to Deadline, filming has begun at the ARRI/Creative Technologies studios in the UK, a virtual production facility that immerses the actors and production staff in CG settings generated in real-time using a giant wraparound LED screen. The cast will board the actual Queen Mary later this November as part of the ship’s exclusive license awarded to Imagination Design Works.
The ocean liner’s multi-story hull is presently docked in Long Beach, California.
Along with filming The Queen Mary, Fry is also filming the TV series Our Flag Means Death about Stede Bonnet, a wealthy landowner in 1717 who has a midlife crisis and resolves to abandon his comfortable life to become a pirate. It is based on a true story. The comedy will star Fred Armisen, Nat Faxon, and Leslie Jones.
