Crisis Averted! Sony and Marvel Make Deal to Keep Spider-Man in the MCU

Earlier this month, it was announced that Sony was taking the movie rights for Spider-Man back from Disney, and that Peter Parker would no longer be a member of the MCU. This news terrified Marvel fans, who feared for the fate of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. But now fans can rest easy, because everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for at least one more movie.

The news has just come out that Sony and Marvel have managed to reach an agreement of sorts. Just this week representatives from each of the studios met to negotiate deal. While the exact terms of their agreement have yet to be revealed, it’s already been announced that a third Tom Holland Spider-Man movie will be produced and take place in the MCU after all. It also looks like Disney will continue to control Spider-Man’s merchandising rights, and Marvel and Disney will get 25% of the movie’s profits. It is unknown if Sony will attempt to take Spider-Man back after the third film, but it looks like the studios are waiting to see what happens after the movie comes out before they make a decision.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will be producing this new movie along side Sony producer Amy Pascal, who also produced the previous two Spider-Man films. Tom Holland of course will be reprising his role as Spidey. The movie is expected to be released in July of 2021.
