Disney’s newest live action remake is gearing up for its newest mission. Lilo & Stitch is poised to go up against Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning as theaters prepare for Memorial Day weekend, and some of the cast aren’t afraid of the competition.
Lilo & Stitch going up against the new Mission: Impossible is shaping up to make for a noteworthy Memorial Day. Hollywood Reporter notes that between the two films, the overall four day weekend could total out to $200 million. Stitch is looking to take the top spot at $120 million, with Mission: Impossible set to make $80 million.
Courtney B. Vance forms the supporting cast of Lilo & Stitch as Cobra Bubbles. In the original animated Lilo & Stitch, Bubbles was the social worker checking in on Lilo and how she was being raised, as Stitch joins the family and causes havoc. Although Stitch is looking to pull ahead by roughly $40 million about a week out, Vance commented that he doesn’t think it’ll be an issue, while having a bit of fun with series star Tom Cruise.
“Tom, how are you gonna do bro? I don’t think you can compete with Stitch, Tom, but you’re gonna give it your best shot,” Vance himself told Hollywood Reporter. From there, Vance shared his support for Cruise and Mission: Impossible, saying he’d be in attendance for Final Reckoning when it hits theaters.
Both Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hit theaters this Friday.
