Courteney Cox Talks ‘Scream IV’

In an interview with Variety, Courteney Cox touched upon her appearance in the latest Scream film – Scream VI. Courtney Cox discussed her thoughts and feelings on being a part of the franchise since 1996.

While appearing on Friends, Cox landed a role in the first Scream film as Gale Weathers. She describes her achievement of getting the part as, “I was known from ‘Friends’ and ‘Family Ties,’ known as the girl next door and sweet. I had to talk to [director] Wes Craven and write him a letter and say, ‘I know that you don’t think of me as this person, but trust me, I really can be an absolute bitch.”

Her landing of the role only served as a reminder of Cox’s range as an actress, as she could seamlessly go from comedy to horror. This is further seen in the fact that her character appears in all the Scream films, demonstrating her hold on fans of the original films. Of the original members, Cox is the only one to appear in all films due to Dave Arquette’s character dying in the last movie and Neve Campbell’s choice not to appear in Scream VI because of failed negotiations regarding pay.

After watching a cut of the film, Cox was amazed, stating, “I was excited, I was scared. Even if I know every single person and what’s gonna happen and why and when I won’t look. It’s so realistic. And I laughed! I cared.”

Scream VI will be released under Paramount Pictures on March 10, 2023.
