Cosmo Jarvis To Star Opposite Dakota Johnson in Netflix & MRC Jane Austen Adaptation, ‘Persuasion’

Netflix and MRC’s upcoming Jane Austen movie, Persuasion, is looking quite persuading due to the recent news that Cosmo Jarvis, Suki Waterhouse, Richard E. Grant and BAFTA nominee Nikki Amuka-Bird are joining Dakota Johnson and Henry Golding in the cast. The film will mark Carrie Cracknell’s feature directorial debut. Cracknell previously directed the stage performance of Sea Wall / A Life on Broadway, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge.

The film follows Johnson as Anne Elliot, an unconforming woman who lives with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy. Being unmarried at the age of 27, Anne reconnects with a man she was once persuaded to reject, and now faces a second chance at love. Jarvis will play the love interest opposite Johnson, Captain Frederick Wentworth. The book the story was based on is the last written by Austen before her death in 1817.

Interestingly enough, another film adaptation of Persuasion is currently in the works at Searchlight Pictures which stars Sarah Snook of HBO‘s Succession. That film was announced in September 2020, is being directed by Mahalia Belo and written by Jessica Swale. Austen’s stories are no stranger to big screen adaptations, other books of hers that have been adapted include Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Emma.

This news was first announced by Deadline.
