Controversial Pandemic Based Film ‘Songbird’ Releases First Trailer

The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have circumnavigated the globe and the devastation caused from this will be felt for many years to come. If you haven’t heard of it by now, a film that is inspired by this pandemic was in production with Michael Bay being attached as a producer. Songbird is the official title of said film and a trailer has finally been released. The film chronices the aftermath of a ensuing lockdown following a viral outbreak that has lasted for the past four years. The film follows several individuals as they deal with the new world they are living in; hiding away from the threats outside such as vigilantes and martial law.

Songbird made headlines when it was hit with a “Do Not Work” order from SAG-AFTRA following unsafe working guildlines in accordances to the CDC in relation to Covid-19. Some critics have already given harsh criticism towards the film claiming that “it’s a cash grab” and “no one asked for this” are just several examples. Regardless, the film was finally completed in early August and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2021 with no exact date confirmed at this time.

The cast includes KJ Apa, Sofia Carson, Craig Robinson, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Demi Moore and Paul Walter Hauser. The script was written by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes with Mason serving as the film’s director. STX Films will be distributing the film sometime next year with no specific date confirmed at this time.

The trailer has finally dropped so see for yourself what your impressions are. This pandemic has affected us all greatly and all we want is to get back to normal. For some, this movie may feel like a cheap shot but for others, an escape from the current reality that we all face.

Rick Rice: A kid at heart who has loved watching movies from a very young age. Credit must be given to Siskel and Ebert whose film reviews educated me on the world of film inspired me to become a writer myself. I love to read books that range from various topics, copious amounts of research is something that excites me and of course sitting in a movie theater is a highlight of my life. When I'm not watching movies or reading I enjoy listening to foreign music and working hard on finishing my short stories. Currently working on my degree in English with a plan to enroll into Film School with the dream of becoming a screenwriter and director.
