The upcoming sci-fi film Project Hail Mary is about two months out from hitting theaters. Although it hasn’t even made its debut yet, a rumored runtime has already come close to breaking a major record for leading talent Ryan Gosling.
Based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, Project Hail Mary follows the last survivor of a space mission launched to find a way to save the Earth. Although the last of his crew, he manages to find help in unlikely places as he races against time for the survival of the planet. Gosling leads the cast, alongside Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, and Ken Leung.
After a report from Yosemite Cinema came out, word started circulating regarding just how long Hail Mary would be. The report suggested that it would be just shy of a full three hours. ComicBook was able to report this thanks to the report, but later got official word from parent company Amazon MGM that 2 hours and 36 minutes is the exact length.
With Hail Mary being that long, it’s become one of the longest films in Gosling’s extensive career. Multiple films of his already clock in well over two hours, including titles such as First Man or The Place Beyond The Pines. ComicBook also noted, however, that Hail Mary hasn’t taken the crown yet as Gosling’s longest film. That title still belongs to Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, which clocks in at a whopping 2 hours and 44 minutes.
Project Hail Mary hits theaters on March 20th.
