

Conclave earned eight Academy Award nominations this week, passing a major global box office milestone as it continues its rollout overseas. The drama-thriller’s domestic run was nearly concluded before launching internationally, and the strategy has appeared to work.
With earnings of nearly $32 million domestically and $50 million from overseas markets, Conclave‘s global haul is now $82 million cumulatively. The movie was produced on a reported budget of $20 million. Based on the 2016 novel by Richard Harris, the film follows the Ralph Fiennes character in the role of a Cardinal who is tasked with overseeing one of the most secretive religious rituals: the Papal elections. Fiennes received an Oscar nod for Best Actor, and this week Conclave hit the $79 million global haul, surpassing The Menu.
The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and received widespread acclaim after its commercial release. It currently holds a “fresh” 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Conclave has done especially well in the United Kingdom and France, grossing $9 million and $8 million, respectively.
It earned a leading 12 nominations at the BAFTAs, another leading 11 nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and another 6 nominations at the Golden Globes. The National Board of Review and the American Film Institute named it one of the best films of 2024. The film’s 8 Oscar nominations include the Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor categories. Isabella Rossellini earned her first nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category.
