Members of the legendary rock band Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have without a doubt made their mark on Hollywood. This year, at the Society of Composers and Lyricists Awards, the duo earned 3 nominations for their work on films in 2020.
In the category for Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film, Reznor & Ross were nominated for David Fincher’s Netflix drama Mank. In the same category, the two share nomination for their work on the Disney–Pixar animated film Soul with composer Jon Batiste, who contributed to the jazz within the film’s score. The duo’s third nomination was in the category for Outstanding Original Song for Visual Media for their song (If Only You Could) Save Me which was also written for Mank.
10 years ago, Reznor & Ross won an Oscar for their work on The Social Network, and last year, they received an Emmy for their work on HBO’s Watchmen series. The pair could see more big wins during this awards season.
The SCL Awards will also honor Terence Blanchard, who’s nominated for his score in Da 5 Bloods, alongside director Spike Lee for this year’s “Spirit of Collaboration Award,” which is given annually to a composer and director duo “for an enduring and distinguished creative partnership.” Blanchard and Lee have collaborated on an estimated 18 films and television projects over the course of three decades.
