After the October 1st deadline, a complete list of every country’s submission for Best International Feature for the 98th Academy Awards is now available. An article published by Deadline details submissions from 89 different countries. The list isn’t conclusive, as many countries have yet to publicly announce their submissions, and the Academy has not yet vetted many of these films for eligibility.
This list includes many high-profile films. These include Jafar Panahi’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner It Was Just an Accident (France’s submission), Joachim Trier’s Cannes Grand Jury Prize-winning drama Sentimental Value (Norway’s submission), Park Chan-Wook’s critically acclaimed No Other Choice (South Korea’s submission), and the Gaza drama The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia’s entry).
The Best International Feature has garnered increased attention over the past couple of years, with numerous international features receiving Best Picture nominations, including Roma (2018), All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), and I’m Still Here (2024). Attention towards the category grew especially with the unexpected Best Picture win of Parasite (2019) at the 92nd Academy Awards.
The first round of preliminary voting for all categories, including Best International Feature, ends on December 12th. The shortlist of films eligible for the next stage of voting will be announced on December 16th. The complete list of nominations for the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on January 22nd. The 98th Academy Awards will then be held on March 15th, 2026.
