Just in time for the 100-year anniversary of the famous poet’s birth, a trailer has been released for the film Set Fire to the Stars, which centers around the life of Dylan Thomas. The film will focus primarily on Thomas’s trip to America with his fan-turned-agent John M. Brinnin.
The film itself has been shot in black and white to reflect the time period. Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) is playing Brinnin, a man determined to introduce to America the poet Dylan Thomas, who is played by Celyn Jones (Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons). The film will no doubt showcase the difficulty Brinnin had keeping Thomas in line during the tour, asthe poet supposedly had the habit of drinking to excess before and after his readings and during the parties they attended while in America.
Directed by Andy Goddard (Downton Abbey), the film doesn’t have a U.S. release date yet, but will premiere in the U.K. on November 7th. Readers interested in brushing up on Thomas’s work can visit the poet’s official website here. Though Thomas died in New York in 1953, he is hailed as one of Wales’ greatest celebrities.
