Comic-Con: Brie Larson Officially Confirmed For ‘Captain Marvel’

We can announce officially that Brie Larson will join the Marvel ranks as Captain Marvel. The announcement came towards the conclusion of Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The Oscar-winning actress already proved a Comic-Con hit earlier this morning as she was a part of Warner Bros.’ presentation of Kong: Skull Island. Marvel’s Kevin Feige made the announcement himself, calling Larson on stage and announcing her the newest member of the Marvel family.

The casting announcement has been widely speculated for sometime now, as talks between the actress and Marvel allegedly started taking place some time ago. Captain Marvel may prove an important property for Marvel, considering this would mark their first superhero story headlined by a woman. While the film has yet to have a director attached, the screenplay will be penned by Inside Out‘s Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Nicole Perlman.

Captain Marvel will tell the story of Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who develops super powers. The character has been in the Marvel universe since 1968. On top of this big announcement, Feige also revealed a release date for Captain Marvel – the film will open in theaters on March 8, 2019.

Larson won an Academy Award earlier this year for her performance in the indie Room. She has also recently appeared in the comedy Trainwreck and the critically acclaimed art house film Short Term 12. Next, she will be seen in Ben Wheatley’s crime drama Free Fire and the musical Basmati Blues. Next spring, Larson will appear in the eagerly anticipated Kong: Skull Island.
