Steven Spielberg has recently announced his return to summer blockbuster production with an untitled film as collaboration between Amblin and Universal Studios slated to premiere May 15th, 2026. Despite being one of the founders of blockbusters, with films like Jaws the original blockbuster being part of Spielberg’s lasting legacy the iconic director has in the last decade all but disappeared from the summer premiere scene. Jaws will also be seeing two documentaries circling for its 50th anniversary.
This new project has Spielberg in talks to be teaming up with Colin Firth, Oscar winner, and Emmy nominee, who will be co-starring alongside Emily Blunt if he is to be cast. The role and other plot details are being kept under wraps by the studio leaving everything rather mysterious about the project. Even so considering a date has been confirmed for a premier it is safe to say Spielberg and his magic are back at work with Firth along for the ride. David Koepp, who has worked with Spielberg previously, has penned the scrip,t and Kristie Macosko Krieger is confirmed as producer.
Firth is best know for dramatic roles in tense films with action and suspense, like The Kingsmen, 1917, and his best-known role as George the VI in The King’s Speech, his Oscar win, so this could offer a hint as to what him and Spielberg are intending to cook up as Spielberg as as always been rather on point with his casting.
