Clive Owen to Join New Ang Lee Film ‘Gemini Man’ With Will Smith

Clive Owen has been in discussions and is set to join the cast of Gemini Man, new action thriller by famed director Ang Lee, according to Variety. Owen is best known for his roles in Children of Men and Closer, but has most recently featured in Valerian and the City of Thousand Planets and The Confirmation. It’s being reported that the female lead will be between Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Elizabeth Debicki, and Tatiana Maslany.

Gemini Man looks to follow the story of a washed-up assassin who must confront a clone of himself in order to save his own life. Owen is set to play an antagonist, but the true details have yet to be revealed to the public. We can only assume that he will play the creator of the clones or some kind of other evil entity.

The film has been in production hell for a long while, beginning its pitch in 1997 to Disney by Darren Lemke. The film appeared to have the late Tony Scott directing, which moved to Curtis Hanson supposedly directing at one point. Ang Lee finally signed on last year in spring, with Skydance also joining to help produce. Because of Will Smith‘s fairly busy schedule, production is supposed to begin sometime in 2018. The film has a current release date of October 4, 2019, but may change depending on when production begins and wraps.
