According to Variety, Clint Eastwood’s upcoming movie Cry Macho, a telling story that redefines what machismo really means, released its trailer this week. The film will be out in theaters and streaming on HBO Max on September 17.
91-year-old Eastwood directed the film and stars as Mike Milo. Mike is an ex-rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder whose former boss comes to him for help in bringing his young son, Rafo (Eduardo Minett) back home from Mexico. The pair takes backroads on their journey to Texas and they face unexpected challenges together. But Mike ends up forming an unlikely connection with Rafo and develops his own sense of redemption.
Cry Macho also stars Natalia Traven as Marta and Dwight Yoakam as Howard Polk, Mike’s former boss. Fernanda Urrejola and Horacio Garcia-Rojas are also in the cast as Leta and Aurelio, respectively.
Variety documents Eastwood’s words to Entertainment Weekly: “It’s about a man who has been through some hard times in his life and then unexpectedly another challenge is brought to the foreground. He would normally never do it but he is a man of his word. He follows through. And it starts his life over again.”
Nick Schenk and N. Richard Nash wrote the screenplay based on the novel by Nash. Watch the trailer below and make sure to check out Cry Macho on September 17!
