After directing Best Picture nominee American Sniper in 2014, based on the real life story of sniper Chris Kyle, and more recently Sully, starring Tom Hanks as the man who saved hundreds of lives during the Hudson River plane landing, it comes to no surprise that Clint Eastwood wants to take on another American true story. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this one is based on a book named Impossible Odds by Jessica Buchanan, her husband Erik Landemalm, and Anthony Flacco.
Buchanan and her co-worker were captured by Somalian pirates in October of 2011. For 93 days, her husband (Landemalm) worked to get her and her co-worker out of the desert, and enlisted President Barack Obama in the effort. The Commander in Chief approved the SEAL Team 6 force which dropped down from air carriers, saved Buchanan and her colleague, and killed the pirates.
Brian Helgeland, who worked with Eastwood on the Oscar-winning film Mystic River (2003), and 2002’s Blood Work, is writing the script. Greg Silverman and Julia Spiro who work at Warner Brothers will also help with production.
Though the movie is still in early production phases, Eastwood, 86, is still continuing his passion for film and America by solidifying his interest in the project.
